Robert Wiley
Over the years, others have described my work as being enigmatic; potentially challenging to viewers, veiled in its meaning, and sometimes even mysterious. I imagine that that has more to do with what we expect as viewers and less to do with the objects, systems, or situations that I make, but I have yet to come to a conclusion. But, that is what we do, isn’t it? We come to know things through our experience, and the objects that human beings make, no matter where they fall in categories of know-how, are actors in our network of existence. With a little luck, some of mine may serve some purpose for others as well. If you ask me why I use glass or how I found my way to it, I would simply say, “I think it may have found me, and who wouldn’t follow an enigmatic material after it came so far looking for them?”
